4 workers die while cleaning septic tank

Four workers have died while cleaning the septic tank of an under-construction building in Brahmanbaria. 

The incident occurred at Ali Mia's house in Galania village of Kalikachch union in Sarail upazila of the district around 3 pm on Wednesday. 

The names of the deceased were not immediately known.

Kalikachcha union chairman Sayeed Hossain said “While working on the septic tank under Ali Mia's under-construction building, two workers went inside the tank. When they did not get any response from them, two more went inside and there was no response from them either. Later, the fire service was informed. The fire service went and broke the wall of the tank and recovered their bodies.”

He also said that one of the four workers was a young man from his native village Dharanti village. However, he could not give the name of the young man. 

He learned that the other three workers are residents of Galania village, where the incident took place.

Brahmanbaria Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Manjur Quader confirmed the truth of the incident. 

He said that after receiving the information, police were sent to the spot.

Sarail Fire Service Station Leader Riaz Mohammad said that after receiving the information, the fire service went to the spot and recovered the bodies. 

It is believed that the incident may have occurred due to gas accumulation in the septic tank. However, nothing can be said right now without an investigation.
