3 killed, 25 injured in truck-bus head-on collision in Kushtia

Three people, including a schoolgirl, were killed in a head-on collision between a sand-laden drum truck and a passenger bus in the Khoksha Shimulia Kuthipara area of the Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway around 11 am on Saturday, leaving at least 25 people injured.

Among the deceased, a schoolgirl named Rafia, 15, has been identified. She is the daughter of Ruhul Amin of Philipnagar Mandalpara in Daulatpur upazila. The identities of the other two are yet to be known.

After the collision, the passenger bus fell into a ditch on the side of the road. 

Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Khoksha Upazila Health Complex. Two of them were declared dead there and the schoolgirl later died on the way to Kushtia Sadar Hospital.

Six people seriously injured in the accident have been shifted to Kushtia General Hospital for better treatment.

Eyewitnesses said that the sand-laden truck lost control while coming at a high speed and hit the bus forcefully, causing the bus to fall into the ditch.

Khoksha Fire Service and Hospital authorities confirmed the death of three people. Doctors said that work to identify the deceased is underway.
