Four killed, 10 injured as passenger bus falls into ditch

Four people were killed and at least 10 others injured after the driver of a passenger bus lost control in Habiganj and fell into a ditch on Monday afternoon in the Baishamora area of Sarail upazila on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

The deceased were identified as Aras Ali Munshi, 70, and minor Alif of Shahbazpur area of Sarail upazila, Mousumi Das, 30, of Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj and Tanoy Kumar Majumder of Ibrahimpur village of Nabinagar upazila.

Khatihata Highway Police Station OC Abu Taher said that the driver of a Diganta Paribahan passenger bus on its way from Madhabpur to Brahmanbaria lost control over its steering under the pressure of a truck coming from the opposite direction in the Baishamora area and fell into a ditch on the roadside.

He said that after the accident, local people and highway police launched a rescue operation and took the injured to the Sarail Upazila Health Complex. Doctors declared the four of the injured dead. The injured are being treated at various hospitals in the district.

The Highway Police said that legal action will be taken in this incident.
