Ayat murder accused Abir sentenced to death

A court in Chittagong has ordered the hanging of neighbour Abir Ali in the case of killing a five-year-old child Ayat in Chittagong and dismembering her body nearby canal leading to the Bay of Bengal. 

Chittagong's sixth additional metropolitan sessions judge Muhammad Ali Akkas announced the verdict on Wednesday.

The child went missing from the EPZ police station area of Chittagong city three and a half years ago on November 15, 2022. 

Following the missing, the child's family filed a general diary (GD) with the EPZ police station in this incident.

Later, the PBI started a shadow investigation on the family's request. The investigation revealed that Md. Abir, a tenant of their house, was involved in the kidnapping and murder of the child. 

Later, on November 25, the police arrested Abir. In his statement given in the court, the accused confessed to killing Ayat.

State lawyer Additional PP Jalal Uddin said, “A total of 33 people testified in the child murder case. Based on the evidence and testimony of witnesses, I have sought the maximum penalty of death for the accused.”
