4 die after falling into abandoned well to retrieve goat

Four people, including a father and his son, died while trying to retrieve a goat that fell into an abandoned well in the Telki Jolai area of Madhupur, Tangail. 

The incident occurred around 8:30 am on Saturday.

The victims who belong to a small ethnic group were identified as Babul Hadima of Jolai village, his young son Neymar Mrong, Ratan Nakrek, and Gabriel Nakrek of the same village, said Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur Police Station AKM Fazlul Haque.

It is learned that a goat fell into the well in the morning. At that time, Gabriel Nakrek (35) first got down into the well to retrieve the goat. Later, not getting any response from outside, three more people got down into the well one by one to rescue the boy.

When none of them responded, the locals informed the Madhupur Fire Service. Fire service members rushed to the spot and recovered their bodies.

Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Fazlul Haque said, “Four members of a small ethnic group died one by one while trying to rescue a goat that had fallen into an abandoned well in the Telki Joli area. Fire service personnel rescued them. The incident is being investigated.”
