Heavy downpour disrupts life and traffic in Khagrachari

Continuous rain for three days has caused waterlogging in various upazila of the district of Khagrachari.

Water is entering roads and homes. Traffic is blocked on some roads. As a result, people in low-lying areas are suffering much. 

In addition, the risk of landslides has increased due to continuous rain.

Due to heavy rain, roads in the Cabbis Mile, Maisachhari and Kerengenala areas of Mahalchhari upazila were submerged in knee-deep water on Tuesday. People in these areas are facing extreme suffering.

As the sluice gates of the irrigation canal were closed, the rainwater could not drain. Consequently, the road in the Maisachhari area of Mahalchhari upazila on the Khagrachari-Rangamati road was submerged in knee-deep water.

Due to continuous rain on Tuesday, the low-lying areas of Muslim Para in the district headquarters, Uttar Ganjpara, a part of Mehedi Bagh, Maischari Bazar, Dighinala and Langadu roads in Mahalchhari upazila were submerged, disrupting traffic.

The district administration said that there is a risk of landslides due to continuous rain. Therefore, work is being done to evacuate more than a hundred families living in the vulnerable areas. In addition, it has been announced that shelter centers will be opened for families trapped in water.

Deputy Commissioner Anwar Sadat said that all kinds of awareness and disaster management activities have been taken at present. The next steps will be taken depending on today's weather forecast, he added.
