Sleeping siblings die in landslide

Two sleeping children died in a landslide in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar. The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning in the hilly village of Mohcheniya Kata in the upazila’s Baritali union.

The deceased children are Rumi Akhter, 15, and Mohammad Tausif, 10. Rumi is the daughter of Mohammad Kazal of Mohcheniya Kata village and a class 10 student of Baritali Dakhil Madrasa. 

Tausif is the son of Abdul Mazid and a class four student of the local government primary school. They are cousins.

Confirming this information, Baritali Union Parishad Chairman Mohammad Salekuzzaman said that village after village has been submerged in water for the past two days. In this situation, two children died in a landslide.

Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahin Delwar also confirmed the death of two children in a landslide.

With this, the death toll in landslides in Cox’s Bazar has increased to 17 in the last four days. Among the deceased, 13 Rohingyas lost their lives in the Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya.
