Father kills wife, son by slitting throat in Rohingya camp

A father killed his wife and five-year-old son by slitting their throats due to a family dispute at the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. 

His eldest son is seriously injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The incident took place at around 1:30am on Thursday in B-6 block of Rohingya camp number 6, Kutupalong. 

The accused Ehtasamul Haque fled after the murder.

The deceased are Ehtasamul Haque’s wife Shaheed Nur Sufia, 30, and son Mohammad Shamim, 5. 

The injured eldest son Mohammad Afsar alias Bappi, 14, has been admitted to the Kutupalong MSF Hospital with the help of locals.

Rohingya leader Mohammad Hussain said that during a family dispute, Ehtasamul Haque attacked his wife and two sons with a sharp knife. Sufia and Shamim died on the spot. Bappi, who was seriously injured, is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. 

Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muzibur Rahman said that after receiving information, the police went to the spot. The body will be recovered and sent to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

A drive is under way to arrest the accused and legal action is being taken in the incident, he added.
