Mother jumps into Sugandha River with five-year-old child

A woman jumped into Sugandha River with her five-year-old daughter in Nalchiti of Jhalakathi. 

Fortunately, the mother and daughter were rescued alive with the immediate rescue action of the locals.

The incident took place at around 9:30 pm on Friday in the Nalchiti Ferry Ghat area, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchiti Police Station Touhiduzzan.

Lucky Akhter, who was rescued, is the daughter of Aziz Molla of Harikeli area of Nalchiti upazila. She recently divorced Adam Ali's son Saidul Islam, a resident of Nalchiti town.

According to police and eyewitnesses, Lucky Akhter jumped into the Sugandha River with her five-year-old daughter from the Nalchiti ferry ghat area on Friday night. Seeing the incident, local people quickly went down to the river and launched a rescue operation. 

Later, the mother and daughter were rescued alive and provided with first aid.

Lucky Akhter said that she had been in a family dispute with her husband since her marriage. A few days ago, she divorced her husband. After that, her ex-husband was pressuring her to take her daughter with him in various ways. Due to this, she claimed that she took such a decision after breaking down mentally.

However, Saidul Islam denied the allegations and said, "Lucky lives with her father's family. We got divorced about 20 days ago. I have not had any contact with her for the last three months. I do not know why she went to cause such an incident."

OC Touhiduzzan said, “The incident is being investigated. The mother and child are currently safe. Necessary legal action will be taken considering the situation.”
