4 killed in Laguna-bus collision on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway

Four passengers were killed and at least five others injured when a Laguna passenger vehicle collided head-on with an AC bus on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway early Thursday.

The accident occurred around 6:30am near Baitul Mamur Jame Mosque in Khutakhali Nayapara area of Chakaria. An unregistered Laguna heading from Chakaria towards Eidgaon crashed into a AC bus.

Local residents rushed the victims to Malumghat Christian Hospital and Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Four of them later succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased were identified as Md Jasim Uddin, 25, son of late Matiur Rahman of Khutakhali Segunbagicha village in Chakaria; Md Shahed, 27; Mohammad Rafiq, 28, son of late Abul Kashem of Eidgaon upazila; and Md Ziabul Haque, 25, son of Aminul Haque.

The critically injured are Ziabul Haque, 40, son of Abdul Samad of Khutakhali New Office Madrasapara; Md Sarwar, 19, son of Syed Alam of Napitkhali in Eidgaon; Syed Alam, 50, son of Ali Mia; Md Delwar Hossain, 35, son of Badruddoja of Medhakachapia village in Chakaria; and Syed Karim, 30, son of Md Rahmat Karim of Kirantoli village in Teknaf.

Syed Karim is receiving treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital while the other four injured are being treated at Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital.

Malumghat Highway Police Sub-Inspector Shamshuzzaman confirmed the incident. 

He said both vehicles have been seized by police, but the drivers fled the scene. A case has been filed in this connection.
