4 killed in head-on collision on Netrokona-Mymensingh highway

Four people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between a pickup truck and a truck in the Narandia area of Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 4:30pm on the Netrokona-Mymensingh highway. A pickup truck carrying passengers from Mymensingh towards Netrokona collided head-on with a truck loaded with stones coming from the opposite direction, according to police and eyewitnesses.

A woman and three men died on the spot. Police could not immediately identify the deceased. Members of Shyamganj police outpost and the highway police recovered the bodies. 

The injured were taken to Netrokona District Sadar Hospital and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Traffic on the highway was suspended as the vehicles remained on the road. Police are working to clear the wreckage and restore normal movement.

Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun said the bodies have been taken into police custody. 

The injured have been sent to hospitals in Netrokona and Mymensingh, and efforts are underway to normalise traffic, he added.
