3 killed, 20 injured in bus-dump truck collision in Gopalganj

Three people were killed and at least 20 people injured in a head-on collision between a dump truck and a bus in Gopalganj. 

The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the Baultali area of Sadar Upazila on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway.

The police could not immediately reveal the names of the deceased.

Shafiul Alam, in-charge of the Baultali police outpost, said that a Sonali Paribahan bus leaving Tekerhat was heading towards Gopalganj. On the way, the bus collided head-on with a dump truck coming from the opposite direction in the Baultali area. As a result, the bus twisted and fell into a ditch on the side of the road and the dump truck overturned on the road.

The police official said that three people died on the spot in the accident. 

At least 20 injured people were rescued by locals and sent to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital and Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital, he added.

After the accident, traffic on the road was disrupted for some time. Later, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
