3 killed in pickup-autorickshaw collision in Dhamrai

Three people, including a child, were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the West Nandeshwari area of Dhamrai, Dhaka. 

The deceased have been identified as Zakaria, 13, Akhi Akter, 25, and the auto-rickshaw driver, Jewel Hossain, 60. 

The injured are Lucky Akter, 32, Abul Hossain, 65, and Selim Hossain, 35.

The injured were rescued and admitted to the Saturia Upazila Health Complex. 

All the deceased and injured were residents of Tangail district.

According to locals and police, the collision occurred on Thursday evening in the West Nandeshwari Bottola area of Dhamrai, involving a passenger-laden CNG auto-rickshaw and a pickup van coming from the opposite direction. 

Md. Mosharraf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saturia Police Station, stated that although the accident site was in Dhamrai, the location was close to Saturia; thus, upon receiving the news, police from Saturia Station—assisted by locals—rescued the victims and transported them to the hospital.

Ilias Hossain, In-charge of the Kawalipara Police Investigation Center in Dhamrai, said the pickup van has been seized. 

The bodies have been sent to the morgue for inquest reports, and the injured are receiving medical treatment, he said, adding legal proceedings regarding the incident are underway.
