CU Teacher's son murdered over mobile phone: Police

The body of Ishiyat Shahriar Apratim (13), the missing son of Dr. Nahida Begum, an associate professor in the Department of Bengali at Comilla University (CU), has been recovered. Police stated that he was killed to snatch his mobile phone. A young man named Tuhin has been detained in connection with the incident.

Apratim's body was recovered on Saturday afternoon from the Lalmai Sananda Hill area adjacent to the CU campus.

Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station, confirmed the matter to Samakal.

Apratim was a seventh-grade student at the local Border Guard Public School. His father, K. M. Firoz Shahriar, is a businessman.

Earlier on Friday around 3:30 PM, Apratim left home to take photos with friends. He had been missing ever since. Following his disappearance, his father, K. M. Firoz Shahriar, filed a general diary (GD) at the police station.

Apratim's mother, Dr. Nahida Begum, had also posted on Facebook sharing news of her missing son and pleading for his safe return.

Meanwhile, upon hearing the news of the recovery of Apratim's body, a large number of people, including CU teachers and students, gathered at the scene. Law enforcement officials collected evidence from the spot.

Monirul Haque Chowdhury, Member of Parliament for the Sadar constituency, arrived at the scene. He instructed the police to swiftly arrest those involved in the murder.

OC Rakibul Islam said, "we are almost certain that this murder took place over a mobile phone." Detained suspect Tuhin is currently being interrogated.
