6 killed, 12 injured in covered van gas cylinder blasts in Savar

At least six people were killed and 12 others injured after gas cylinders of seven covered vans exploded and caught fire inside the boundary of Priti Garments at Jamgora in Ashulia, Savar, on Sunday night.

The fire broke out at around 6:45pm, according to Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) media officer Talha bin Zasim. The FSCD said five of the deceased were rescued by firefighters, while another deceased person was recovered by local people.

Names and identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately. Two units from Zirabo Fire Station and two units from DEPZ Fire Station worked to bring the blaze under control.

The firefighters reached the spot at around 7:25pm, about five kilometres from the station and extinguished the fire at 10pm. The rescue operation was completed at 11:42pm.
