2 UPDF activists shot dead in Rangamati

Two activists of the United People’s Democratic Front were shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Rangamati's Naniarchar upazila last night.  

The incident took place in Ramsuparipara area of Sabekhong union under the upazila around 12:30am.    

The deceased were identified as Shyamal Chakma and Akorshon Chakma. Both were from Ramsuparipara.  

According to the locals, Shyamal and Akorshon were the activists of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) and recently they joined the UPDF.  

The victims were sleeping at a house in Ramsuparipara area while a group of unidentified miscreants went there around 12:30am and gunned them down, added the locals.  

On information, police started to the spot, said Rawshan Jaman, a Sub-inspector of Naniarchar Police Station, adding that it may take more time to reach there as the incident took place in a remote area.

Earlier, on May 3, Advocate Shaktiman Chakma, 55, chairman of Naniarchar upazila parishad and a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (MN Larma faction), was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in the district.   

Later, five people were killed and eight others injured in a gun attack on a motorcade of the followers of slain Shaktiman Chakma at Betchhari in the upazila on May 4 while they were going to attend the funeral programme of Shaktiman.
