4 killed as pickup van overturns in Noakhali

Four people were killed and nine others injured after a pickup van overturned in Noakhali’s Chowmuhani upazila on Sunday morning.

The incident took place on Feni-Noakhali regional highway in front of Chowmuhani Singer road area around 7:00am.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately while it is primarily assumed that all were construction workers. 

According to police and locals, 12 workers had boarded the pickup van from Feni to reach Begumganj’s Bangla Bazar for building construction work. The pickup van overturned when its driver lost control of the vehicle while overtaking a rickshaw in front of Chowmuhani Singer road area, leaving one dead on the spot.

Three others succumbed to their injuries at the Noakhali General Hospital, they added. 

Harunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Begumganj Model Police Station, said the bodies have been sent to Noakhali General Hospital morgue.
