6 workers die while cleaning septic tank in Joypurhat

Six workers died and three others injured after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a septic tank at a Hindu house in Joypurhat's Akkelpur upazila on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place around 9:30am while the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

According to the locals, the workers went to clean the septic tank of Nikhil Chandra's house at the Hindu colony. At first, two workers sustained injuries when they went inside the septic tank. Later, seven other workers also suffered injuries while rescuing them. 

Four workers died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries at Naogaon Sadar Hospital, added the locals.

Kiron Kumar Roy, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station, said among the injured, two were admitted to Naogaon Sadar Hospital while another to Akkelpur Health Complex.
