8 die drinking excessive liquor in Khulna

Eight people died as they consumed excessive liquor after immersion of the idol of goddess Saraswati in Khulna on Wednesday.

The deceased were undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital as they fell sick after drinking alcohol excessively.

The dead are - Prasenjit Roy, general secretary of the Gollamari Puja Committee of Sonadanga police station, his elder brother Tapas Das, Sujan Shil of Glaxo area in Khulna Sadar, Rahul Biswas Raju of Khulna General Hospital road, Porimal Das of Rajapur village of Rupsa upazila, Indrani Biswas, wife of Samir Biswas, Deepta Das, son of Nirmal Das, and Amit Shil of Raipara Cross Road in the city. 

Khulna Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Kamruzzaman said five people fell ill due to excessive drinking on Tuesday night. They were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital at night where they died on Wednesday morning. Two unnatural death cases were filed with Khulna and Sonadanga police stations in this connection.

Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr ASM Abdur Razzak said five people died in excess alcohol in the city and three in Rupsa upazila.

Meanwhile, the bodies were handed over to the family members after the post mortem.
