Mother, daughter hacked to death over land dispute

A mother and her daughter were hacked to death by rivals over a land dispute in Islamabad area of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila around 8:15 pm on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Rasheda Begum, 32, wife of Azizul Baburchi of Charpara area of Islamabad and her daughter Jannatul Ferdous, 13, a 7th grader student of Jahanara Islam Girls’ High School.

Citing eyewitnesses, Islamabad Union Parishad chairman Nur Siddique said there was a dispute between Azizul Baburchi's family and the family of Abul Kalam, son of Zafar Alam of the same area, over the boundaries of Bastavit. Opponents hacked Rasheda and her daughter to death at around 8:15 pm, leaving Rasheda dead on the spot while Jannat died after she was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Confirming the matter, Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Bipul Chandra Dey said the police visited the spot and recovered a sharp weapon. 

The official also said that efforts are being made to arrest those involved in the incident.
