Road mishap kills five in Rangpur

Five people were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between two passenger buses at Mostafa Cold Storage point in Boldipukur area of Mithapukur upazila in the district this morning.

“The mishap occurred when a Rangpur bound passenger bus from Dhaka and a Dhaka bound bus from Rangpur collided head-on at Mostafa Cold Storage point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway at 7:30 am,” Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mithapukur police station Md Amiruzzaman said, reports BSS.

Five passengers of the two buses, including a minor female child, were killed on the spot, and 20 others injured in the fatal road accident.

Being informed, police and firemen from Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station rushed to the spot, rescued the bodies and injured persons and salvaged the two ill-fated buses in one and a half hours.

“The injured persons were sent to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex and Rangpur Medical College Hospital,” the OC said, adding that identities of the deceased people could not be known immediately.

Assistant Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station AKM Shamsuzzoha said that vehicular movement on the highway resumed after salvage of the two ill-fated passenger buses from the spot.

“The process of filing a case in this connection with Mithapukur police station is underway,” OC Amiruzzaman added.
