7 killed in Chakaria road crash

Seven people were killed when driver of a passenger microbus lost control over its steering and fell into a pond at Chakaria in Cox's Bazar.

The accident took place near the Greenbelly Community Centre on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway at around 9:30 am on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Rani Rudra, 60, Purnima, 35, Baby, 3, Ratan Bijoy, 50, Madhumita, 45, Hatema Begum and an unknown passer-by.

According to the fire service sources, the microbus carrying 10-12 passengers from Cox's Bazar was moving to Chakariya. 

At around 9:30 am, the driver of microbus lost control over its steering near the Greenbeli Community Center in Chakriya and fell into a pond.

The injured passengers brought to Chakaria Hospital where Resident Medical Officer Fahim Ahmed Faisal declared the six dead.

Saiful Hasan, in-charge of Chakaria Fire Station, said a pedestrian died on the spot. The microbus was rescued from the pond.
