7 killed in Dinajpur lightning strike

Seven people, including four teenagers, were killed in a lightning strike while playing football in the playground in Dinajpur.

The incident took place at around 3:30 pm on Monday at Block No. 8 in Dinajpur suburb.

The deceased were identified as Sajjad, 13, son of Ainul Islam of Railghunti area, Atiq, 18, son of Bablu Miah, Mim, 10, son of Saju Mandal and Apan, 18, of Kalipur area.

According to the locals, the teenagers were playing football in the afternoon at the football field No. 8 in the suburb of Dinajpur. At that time, three people died on the spot when lightning struck them. The rest were rescued and taken to hospital, where another died.

Besides, three people were killed in a lightning strike while fishing near their house in Sukhdevpur area of Chirirbandar upazila in Dinajpur.

Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station OC Mozaffar Hossain said two of the injured were undergoing treatment in the ICU.
