ASI was stabbed to death while trying to arrest a drug addict

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Piarul Islam was stabbed to death in Rangpur around 11:30 am on Saturday.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Haragachh Police Station Shawkat Ali Sarkar confirmed his death.

The deceased was identified as ASI Piarul of Mughalhat in Lalmonirhat. He joined the police force in 2012.

Haragachh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkat Ali Sarkar said on a tip-off, ASI Piarul Islam arrested a drug addict named Palash with cannabis in Sahebganj area at midnight on Friday. At that time, Palash hit ASI Piarul in the chest with the knife he possessed, injuring him seriously. He was taken to the ICU of Rangpur Medical College Hospital after surgery where he died.

Police arrested Palash last night.
