New Market in Patuakhali gutted

Hundreds of businesses were gutted in a devastating fire at New Market in Patuakhali in the early hours of Thursday.

Six units of the fire service from Barisal, Patuakhali, Amtali and Bakerganj brought the fire under control after two hours of frantic efforts.

However, no casualties were reported.

Administration officials, including Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Kamal Hossain and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahidullah visited the site.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The deputy director of the Barisal division fire service office said the fire might start from the north-eastern side of the market.
