Boma Mizan sentenced to death

Jahidul Islam Mizan alias Boma Mizan, a member of the banned militant group JMB, has been sentenced to death by a court in a case of bomb attack on a court premises in Chittagong.

Judge Abdul Halim of the Chittagong Anti-Terrorism Tribunal on Sunday pronounced the verdict in the case filed16 years ago.

The court has also sentenced JMB's Chittagong branch divisional commander Jabed Iqbal to life imprisonment.

PP Manoranjan Das of this tribunal has confirmed this.

He said Jabed Iqbal was present in the courtroom at the time of the verdict while Jahidul Islam alias Boma Mizan, who was sentenced to death, is a prisoner in India.

On the morning of November 29, 2005, a bomb exploded in front of a police check post at the Chittagong court building. Two people, including Police constable Rajib Barua, were killed in the attack by JMB members.
