UP election clash leaves three dead in Raipura

Three people were killed in a clash between supporters of two chairman candidates in the Union Parishad (UP) elections in Raipura, Narsingdi.

One of the deceased was identified as Dulal Mia, 35, said Raypura Circle ASP Satyajit Kumar Ghosh.

The incident took place in front of Battuligandi center of Bashgari union in the char area of the upazila around 5 am on Thursday.

The ASP said one person was killed in the clashes over the election and the body has been kept at the District Sadar Hospital.

Locals said clashes were raging between supporters of Awami League-nominated boat candidate Ashraful Alam and independent candidate Ratul Raihan. Due to this, the two sides clashed in the morning, leaving two people dead. However, the identity of the two others was not found immediately.

Meanwhile, voting has started in the second phase of UP elections across the country on Thursday.
