Hanging bodies of father, son recovered in Netrokona

Police recovered the bodies of Abdul Qayyum, 32, and his two-year-old son Ahnab Shakil from Nagra area of Netrokona Municipality on Thursday morning.

The deceased identified as Abdul Qayyum, is son of Akkas Sardar of Khamar village in Nageshwari upazila of Kurigram. He worked in drug administration in Netrokona and rented a house in Nagra and lived with his wife and child.

Salma Akhter, wife of the deceased, said that after eating dinner on Wednesday, they fell asleep in a room at around 1 am. She woke up at 5 am and saw the hanging bodies of her husband and child in the next room.

When the matter was reported to the locals, they informed the police. Police recovered the body and sent it to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, she added.

Netrokona Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Fakhruzzaman Jewel said preliminary investigations showed that Abdul Qayyum had committed suicide after killing the child. The bodies of the two have been sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy. The matter is being investigated.
