Husband arrested for strangling wife and son in Narsingdi

A man has been accused of strangling his wife and 13-month-old son at a house in Paschimpara area of Ghoradia village in Chinishpur union of Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Sunday night.

Police of Narsingdi Model Police Station recovered the bodies of the mother and son around 5 am on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Reshmi Akhter, 26, wife of Fakrul Islam of Ghoradia village, and Salman Safayat, 13-month-old son. Fakrul Islam, 30, is now in police custody.

According to police and relatives of the victims, Fakrul strangled his wife and son to death at around 2am on Sunday. Later, the locals captured Fakrul and handed him over to the police.

Reshmi has had many quarrels with her husband and mother-in-law over drug addiction. Fakrul, a drug addict, was later given a rehab to keep him away from drugs. Recently, he came out of the rehab at the request of his family members.

Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Saheb Ali Pathan said a man named Fakrul Islam had been arrested for allegedly strangling his wife and child. The bodies of the mother and son have been sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy. 

Legal action is being taken in this matter, he added.
