Turag police inspector killed in road crash

Safiullah Jewel, 45, a police inspector (investigation) of Turag police station in the capital, was killed in a head-on collision between a private car and a covered-van at Araihazar in Narayanganj.

The accident took place in Purinda area of Dhaka-Sylhet highway of the upazila around 12:30 am on Tuesday.

Araihazar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman Mollah told The Daily Samakal that Safiullah Jewel, son of freedom fighter Azizur Rahman of Purinda village in Satgram union of Araihazar upazila was killed by accident while he was on the way home from work.

Police and local sources said a head-on collision between a private car and a covered-van took place in thick fog in the Purinda area of the highway. Jewel, who was in a private car, was seriously injured. He was later taken to US Bangla Hospital in Rupganj where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Satgram union chairman Adud Mahmud said Jewel had a wife, a son and two daughters. His death has cast a shadow of mourning over the area, including his family.
