Two killed in 'gunfight' in Cox's Bazar

Two people were killed in a 'gunfight' with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the East Bara Veola area of Chakaria upazila in Cox's Bazar on Monday.

The RAB claims they are members of gang of robbers and there are multiple cases against them. The names of those killed were not immediately available.

Major Sheikh Yusuf Ahmed, CPC commander of Cox's Bazar RAB-15, said an organized gang of robbers was preparing for a robbery in the area of East Bara Veola in the morning. Upon receiving the news, RAB went on an operation. Detecting the presence, the robbers started firing and the RAB also fired in self-defense. 

When the gunfire stopped, two people were arrested from the scene. Two more were later found shot. When they were rushed to the Upazila Health Complex, the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

He added that three domestic weapons, six rounds of ammunition and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot. The body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
