Youth killed in Maheshkhali clash over land

A youth named Ferdous, 26, was killed and five others were injured in Fakira Ghona area of Ward No. 9 of Boro Maheshkhali Union of the Maheshkhali upazila in Cox's Bazar around 9 pm on Sunday. 

Maheshkhali police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Hai said the deceased is the son of Nuruchfa of Ghona area.

According to the locals, the Arubbar and Chaiddar groups of Fakira Ghona had been in conflict for a long time over the land dispute. The dispute escalated into a shootout between the two sides on Sunday night, leaving Ferdous shot dead.

When the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex, the on-duty doctor declared Ferdous dead.

OC Abdul Hai said the body of the deceased was recovered and kept at the Upazila Health Complex.

An operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident, he added.
