5 siblings killed in Cox’s Bazar road crash

Five brothers were killed in a road accident at Malumghat area of Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway at around 5 am on Tuesday. Four other members of the same family were injured in the accident.

The deceased were identified as Nirupam Shil, 40, Deepak Shil, 37, Champak Shil, 30, Plavan Shil, 22 and Smaran Shil, 42.

They are the sons of late Suresh Chandra Shil of Sagirshah Kata village in Dulahajara union of Chakriya.

Safayet Hossain, in-charge inspector of Malumghat Highway Police Station in Chakriya, said five members of the same family were killed on the spot when a speeding vehicle heading towards Cox's Bazar hit them while crossing the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway.

Four other family members, who were seriously injured, were rescued and admitted to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.

Osman Ghani said the process of retrieving the bodies of the deceased was underway. The bodies will be sent to the morgue for autopsy.

The OC said police were trying to identify the accused driver and the car.
