BCL leader killed in clash in Chittagong

A leader was stabbed to death in a clash between two factions of the BCL in Cheragipahar area of Kotwali police station in Chittagong on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Askar bin Tareq, 18, son of SM Tarek of Enayet Bazar area under Kotwali police station. He is the religious affairs secretary of Jamalkhan Ward Chhatra League.

Mujahidul Islam, assistant commissioner of city police, said a young man was stabbed to death in a clash between the two sides of BCL.

Attempts are being made to identify those involved in the incident by collecting CCTV footage, he said, adding that police are working to arrest those responsible.

According to local sources, the dispute between the followers of city Chhatra League co-secretary Sabbir Sadiq and member Saikat Das had been going on for several days.

The clash ensued following the dispute, said Panchlaish police inspector Sadiqur Rahman.

He said the on-duty doctor declared Tareq dead when injured Askar was brought to the hospital.
