Netrakona DAE targets to produce 89,646 tonnes summer vegetables

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has initiated a massive program to produce 89,646 tonnes of summer vegetables from 4,460 hectares of land in Netrokona.

On 3,758 hectors of land in the district, farmers have grown summer vegetables, and they have continued to make unrelenting efforts to develop vegetables on the remaining targeted area.

According to Deputy Director of the DAE Netrakona F M Mubarak Ali, peasants are stepping forward to grow summer crops such as lady's finger, red and green leafy, brinjal, gourd, sweet gourd, cucumber, bottle gourd, pointed gourd, tomato, and arum in the districts.

Various state-run institutions, he said, such as BADC and BCIC, are ensuring that better-quality seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural equipment are supplied to farmers' doorsteps at cheap prices to encourage them to grow summer vegetables.

He also noted that DAE crop specialists and field-level officials have continued to provide field-level help to vegetable growers in order to enlighten them about new growing practices that utilize the most up-to-date technologies while cutting production costs.
