3 killed as train hits pickup in Raipura

At least three people were killed and four others were seriously injured when a train hit a pickup at Amirganj in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi on Saturday afternoon. 

The deceased were identified as Anish Mia, 20, Shahin Mia, 25, and Sujat Hossain, 23, of Netrokona district. 

The injured are pickup driver Iqbal Hossain, 24, Md. Shahjahan Mia, 20, and A. Jalil, 20.

Narsingdi Railway Police in-charge (SI) Emayedul Jahedi said some people were returning from Radhaganj Bazar in Raipura upazila at noon after completing work on a mobile phone SIM company tower. 

The pickup van overturned when it was pushed by the Jayantika Express train at the crossing, leaving two dead on the spot and four others injured seriously, he added.

Later, the locals rescued the injured and sent them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Another person succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Jahedi said the body was recovered from the spot and sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
