As people visit Youtube for more and more videos about every aspect they like, some Bangladeshi individuals have made a name for themselves as well, taking the same path as global Youtube stars such as Pewdiepie. Most employ humor, while some are entertainment-based or even academic.
SalmoN TheBrownFish-- Everybody knows Salman Muqtadir these days, as he is gradually becoming a regular face on television in serials and commercials. But if you want to know what made him famous in the first place, be sure to visit this channel. A hit among the teenage populous, his take on trending topics, parodies and teenage dilemmas, although a bit immature, are always big hits. His channel currently has over 2.16 lakh subscribers.
Bhai Brothers LTD-- Another youth-based venture brought out by Asif Bin Azad, he delves into analyzing and deconstructing social dilemmas through parodies and slapstick comedy. His recent venture into webcasts has been appreciated, although the disclaimer does not warn viewers of profane language beforehand. They currently have a subscriber base of over 1.26 lakh.
Gaan Friends-- A spin-off by friends of Salman Muqtadir, namely Tamim Mridha and Shouvik Ahmed, this channel, in a very short amount of time, has taken the local Youtube community by storm, taking over 67,000 channel subscribers. They basically contextualize hit English songs in Bangla and record their covers, often resulting in rib-tickling lyrics. Don’t believe us? Just see what they made out of Blue’s One Love and Shakira’s Whenever, Wherever.
Mango Squad-- This is a channel brought out by ‘Squad Leader’ Shamim Hasan Sarker, who has his own idea and take on social irregularities in very scathing and hilarious language, which often imitates Hanif Sanket, ala Ittyadi. One word which he uses in all his video titles, ‘Osthir’ (although it is Bangla for impatient, Shamim connotates it as genius). He has given his two cents on journalism, trending cultures and behaviors and even musicians who often plagiarize. Although his subscriber base is at 59,000, it represents more of the responsible youth community who are willing to acknowledge and strive for social changes.
Chamok Hasan-- An academic Youtuber, Chamok uses Bangla to teach Math and Science in a fun and engaging manner. Young students mostly comprise of his subscriber base, which currently is over 29,000.
Tiger Media-- A local cinema production house, whose trailers and movie songs are making quite a wave, thanks to superior cinematography and non-traditional film treatments. They usually cover most of Shakib Khan’s upcoming flicks, but their large base of over 70,000 subscribers can mostly be ascribed due to updated technology, which is credited to the high-definition songs, visited by users from a diverse age group.
Jaaz Multimedia-- The most popular cinema production house currently in the country, they have a fan base of over 85,000 subscribers and everyone knows why. Taking a page out from Indian cinema, their cinema treatments mirror those found in South Indian or Kolkata movies, which are popular within the local commercial movie-lovers’ community. Always out to promote actresses such as Boby or Mahiya Mahi, their non-conforming reliance on actresses has been appreciated in social media, their Youtube channel proves just that.
