Priyanka Chopra has reacted strongly towards the horrifying incident of two tribal women being paraded naked in strife-hit Manipur. She demanded swift justice and punishment for the perpetrators while channelling the collective shame and anger in a unified voice.
"“It took a video going viral… 77 days after the heinous crimes were committed… Before actions were taken. Rationale? Reasons? None matter--irrespective of what and why, situational or circumstantial, we cannot allow women to be pawns in any games,” she wrote on Instagram, reports Times of India.
“The collective shame and anger needs to be channelled now in a unified voice for just one thing- swift justice,” she added with hashtags ‘together in shame’ and ‘justice for the women of Manipur,’" she added.
Earlier, Akshay Kumar, Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Dutt, Kiara Advani, Ekta Kapoor, Jaya Bachchan, Richa Chadha, Renuka Shahane, Riteish Deshmukh among several others expressed their shock over a May 4 video of the incident that took place at a village in Senapati district.
The Manipur Police on Thursday arrested one of the main accused who was seen in the video. The police said a case of abduction, gangrape and murder has been registered at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district against unknown armed miscreants.
The Northeastern state has been seeing ethnic violence since May 3 and several fatalities have been reported.
