Mother is no more: Shomi Kaiser

Noted actress Shomi Kaiser has lost her mother Panna Kaiser on Friday morning.

“Mother is no more. I have become alone,” Shomi Kaiser said crying while talking to The Daily Samakal.

Professor Panna Kaiser, eminent author, researcher, intellectual, cultural organiser and former Member of Parliament breathed her last at United Hospital in the capital at 11 am.

Panna Kaiser, wife of Shahidullah Kaiser, a writer and a journalist, has contributed in a child organisation named Khelaghar. 

Shomi Kaiser’s mother Panna Kaiser was also engaged in various social activities, cultural event and writeup.

She was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2021 in the category of research on liberation war.

Panna Kaiser married Shahidullah Kaiser on February 17, 1969.

In 1969, she earned a master's degree in Bengali literature from the University of Dhaka.

Panna Kaiser lost her husband Shahidullah Kaiser on December 14, 1971.

The paramilitary Al-Badr kidnapped Shahidullah Kaiser from his house on the day, and he hasn't been seen since.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of eminent author, researcher, intellectual, cultural organiser and former Member of Parliament Professor Panna Kaiser.

In a condolence message, the Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
