False signatures: Mahi's nomination rejected

A returning officer (RO) has rejected the nomination of Mahia Mahi for the 12th parliamentary election as an independent candidate from the Rajshahi-1 constituency.

Popular actress Mahi's nomination papers were rejected on the morning of December 3 due to falsified voter signatures, Returning Officer Shamim Ahmed said.

In order to contend in the election as an independent candidate, the signatures of one per cent of voters from the constituency have to be handed to the RO. Mahi submitted a list of signatures from 4,083 supporters.

However, after verification, discrepancies were found in 3 out of 10 voter signatures submitted by Mahi, so her papers were rejected.
