Band icon Shafin Ahmed no more

Shafin Ahmed, one of the country's most popular band artists and former frontman of the legendary Bangladeshi band Miles, has passed away at the age of 63.

The rock bassist, singer-songwriter, and record producer breathed his last in a hospital in Virginia, United States, at 6:50am on Thursday (Bangladesh time), Shafin Ahmed's brother Hamin Ahmed confirmed. 

While talking to the Daily Samakal, Hamin Ahmed said his brother had been performing in the US recently. He was singing at a live concert in Virginia on Sunday when he became ill on the stage. It is assumed that the pacemaker in his heart stopped working. 

Hamin Ahmed plans to go to the US to retrieve his brother's body on Thursday. 

The popular Bangladeshi rock bassist, singer-songwriter, and record producer breathed his last while on life support in a hospital in Virginia, United States, on Wednesday (local time) due to heart and kidney failure, according to the Bangladesh Band Music Fans Community (BBMFC).

Born on February 14, 1961, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, to the subcontinent’s pioneering music artists Kamal Dasgupta and Feroza Begum, Shafin Ahmed joined the Bangladeshi rock band Miles in 1979.
