Actor Siddique on 7-day remand in murder attempt case

A court has placed actor Siddiqur Rahman Siddique on a seven-day remand in a case lodged with the city's Gulshan Police Station over an attempt to murder one Jabbar Ali Hawlader during the July-August mass uprising.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah passed the order on Wednesday as police produced Siddique before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand.

A group of youths apprehended and assaulted Siddique on Tuesday at noon as he was walking through the city's Bailey Road area. They later handed him over to the police.

According to the case documents, police on July 19 opened fire on the pro-uprising activists in front of Shahjadpur Confidence Tower. Jabbar got shot in the attack. He filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on December 11 against 109 people, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
