Mustafa Zaman Abbasi passes away

Noted musician, researcher, and writer Mustafa Zaman Abbasi has passed away on Saturday morning. He was 87.

He died at a hospital in Banani at 7 am, said his daughter Sharmin Abbasi.

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi had been suffering from various complications related to his illness for some time. He was last admitted to the hospital on Friday with breathing problems.

Abbasi is the son of a renowned musical family in the subcontinent. His father Abbas Uddin Ahmed was the first to popularize country music in the world. 

His uncle Abdul Karim was a popular artiste of country music and Bhawaiyya Bhatiali songs. 

His elder brother Justice Mustafa Kamal is a lawyer. Mustafa Kamal's daughter Nasheed Kamal is also a renowned artiste. Abbasi’s sister Ferdousi Rahman is hailed as a multi-talented musician of the country.

Mustafa Zaman Abbasi was born on December 8, 1936 in the village of Balrampur in Cooch Behar district, India. 

His childhood and adolescence were spent in Kolkata. National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was very close to this family.
