Bangladeshi model arrested in Kolkata

A Bangladeshi woman was arrested this week in Kolkata for residing in India using fake documents. 

Shanta Paul was detained on Wednesday night. Police seized fake Indian documents including an Aadhaar card and a voter ID from her. The validity of both her passport and visa ended and the did not renew them, police said. 

Shanta has been living in Jadavpur since 2023. She also rented flats in various places in Kolkata under different identities. 

Shanta represented Bangladesh in the Indo-Bangla Beauty Pageant in 2016 and went on to become Miss Asia Global in 2019.

She is currently in police custody till August 8.
