Actor Shams Suman no more

Popular Bangladeshi actor Shams Suman has passed away. He was 59-61 years old.

The veteran performer, known for his prominent roles in television dramas, films, and stage productions, died on Tuesday afternoon, March 17, 2026, at around 6:30-6:45 pm after suffering a sudden heart-related issue.

The news was confirmed by Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Actors' Association (Abhinoy Shilpi Shangha), who noted that Shams Suman felt unwell shortly after 5 pm, informed fellow actor Shahadat Hossain, and was rushed to LabAid Hospital in Dhaka, where he succumbed during treatment. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.

Shams Suman, originally from Rajshahi, completed his graduation and post-graduation from Rajshahi University and was actively involved in the university's recitation organisation Swanon.

He began his career in theatre before becoming a familiar face on both the small screen and in cinema, though his appearances in recent TV dramas had become less frequent. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the station chief of Radio Bhoomi.

Among his notable film works are Mon Jaenayna Moner Thikana (2016), Cox's Bazar Kakatua (2016), Chokher Dekha (2016), Priya Tumi Sukhi Hao (2014), Ayna Kahini (2013), Bidrohi Padma (2006), Joyjatra (2004), Namuna (2008), and Hello Amit (2012).

He earned the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2008 for his performance in Swapnapuran.

His sudden departure has left the Bangladeshi entertainment industry in mourning.
