Even in the middle of desolation, I am now searching for a new haven: Jannatul Piya

Eid symbolises joy and happiness, a festival that brings delight to people of all ages, with no exceptions—even for celebrities who celebrate it much like ordinary families. 

For actress Piya Jannatul, however, this Eid carries a deep sadness, as it marks the first time she is observing the occasion without her father, who passed away nearly nine months ago.

In a heartfelt conversation with Daily Samakal, Piya shared how unimaginable this Eid feels without him. Every time Eid arrives, memories flood back of her childhood days spent in the warm presence of her parents. 

Back then, Eid meant being surrounded by family—her father waking her after morning prayers, the sight of him and her uncle embracing warmly, her mother's delicious payesh marking the start of the festive meal. 

She fondly recalled applying hena on moonlit nights or on Eid day itself, slipping into new clothes, and gathering around the table with everyone in a bustling, joyful atmosphere.

With her grandparents long gone and now her father as well, the sparkle of Eid has dimmed. 

The family no longer ventures out as before, and she has come to realise just how profoundly difficult it is to celebrate without him. 

Her father always brimmed with excitement—for her TV appearances, new songs, everything—and she misses his enthusiastic phone calls most on Eid mornings, when he would be the first to call and offer prayers. 

That absence leaves an emptiness words can scarcely capture.

Amid this void, Piya is quietly seeking a new sense of refuge. 

Her husband and children have become her entire world; she finds solace and renewed joy in their smiles. 

Life, she believes, must move forward—one learns to adapt and embrace it afresh. 

This year, she is staying in Dhaka briefly but has returned to Khulna after twelve years to celebrate Eid with her mother, husband, children, and relatives—a plan made long ago, offering a gentle step toward healing in the midst of loss.
