Tumhari Sulu: Sridevi to launch reprise version of 'Hawa Hawai'

Veteran actor Sridevi will, at a special event, unveil the new version of her iconic song “Hawa Hawaai” that features in actor Vidya Balan’s upcoming comedy Tumhari Sulu. The song from Shekhar Kapur’s 1987 hit Mr India is considered one of the best tracks to have been picturised on Sridevi.

Today at the trailer launch of Tumhari Sulu, the film’s makers revealed that Sridevi will be present at the song launch, which will take place soon. Sharing her sentiments about performing to the song, Vidya Balan said that she was initially nervous but what made her feel at ease was that she didn’t have to recreate what Sridevi did but just have fun. “We are not recreating the song as it was in Mr India. We are just trying to have fun with it because there is only one Sridevi. I am a huge fan of her. There’s no one like her,” she said.

Tumhari Sulu is helmed by debutante director Suresh Triveni, and it also stars Neha Dhupia and Manav Kaul. The film arrives in theaters on November 7, reports Indian Express. 

The comedy is about a middle-class woman (Vidya Balan), who takes up a job as a late night radio jockey. For Balan, Tumhari Sulu served as a break she desperately needed after playing heavy-duty roles in films like Te3n, Begum Jaan and Kahaani 2. “I had been doing a lot of serious films before Tumhari Sulu happened. I think I was missing the dose of light-hearted stuff. I needed something relaxing, which makes me laugh. Also, Tumhari Sulu is one of the best scripts I have ever read,” the actor said.

At the event, Vidya Balan also spoke about her duty as the member of Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The actor was appointed as a CBFC member in August when the board was reconstituted, and lyricist-writer Prasoon Joshi was made its chairperson. “I am enjoying being a part of the CBFC. People actually don’t realise what it takes to be a CBFC member. We don’t watch all films. We watch them only when there is a problem. So far, I have watched really less films. So, I think that’s a good thing,” she said.
