TK 1000 crore allocation for flourishing film industry: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced on Wednesday that her government has set Tk 1000 crore to build cinema halls or cineplexes with contemporary facilities at district and upazila levels in order to boost the country's film industry.

The prime minister was the chief guest at the National Film Award-2020 handover ceremony at the city's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) this morning, speaking virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence.

The function was organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The prime minister stated that her government is working to digitize historic films.

She stated that the cinema is a reflection of society and that it may play a significant part in society reform.

By creating good cinemas, everyone involved in the film industry can fulfill their duties and responsibilities to the nation and country, she noted.

She described the video as a "carrier of history," saying it will help us learn about many topics we didn't know.

The prime minister urged everyone involved to develop decent films that can help to eliminate social inequity and disorder.

Dr Hasan Mahmud, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, presided over the ceremony and presented the prizes to the honorees on behalf of the premier.
