4 easy tips to clean a greasy exhaust fan

An exhaust fan is a must in the kitchen, as it helps remove dust and debris from the air while cooking. However, this can lead to the accumulation of a lot of dirt inside it, which has a direct impact on its functioning.

There are several effective ways in which you can clean the fan yourself with things you can easily find in your kitchen. Take a look at four of them –

1.            Use hot water and soap

The easiest way to get rid of greasy stains from your exhaust fan is to use a mix of hot water and soap. Use your regular dishwashing soap for this purpose. Hot water helps break down the tough grease, while soap speeds up the cleaning process.

Take a large bowl and fill it with 1 cup of water and a few drops of soap. Now, take a kitchen cloth and dip it in the solution. Rub it all over the exhaust fan, making sure to reach all the edges. Once done, wipe everything off with a fresh, wet cloth.

Make sure to always switch off or unplug the fan before you begin with the cleaning process to avoid the risk of any injury.

2.            Baking soda to your rescue

Another effective cleaning agent that you'll easily find in your kitchen is baking soda. It helps remove stubborn stains with the utmost ease. The good news is that you can use it to clean your exhaust fan as well.

Simply mix a teaspoon of baking soda with a small amount of water. The mixture should resemble a thick paste and not have a watery consistency. Wipe away all the dry dust from the fan and clean it using a wet cloth.

Once done, apply the prepared baking soda paste all over the fan and its blades. Let it sit for some time before cleaning with a cloth.

3.            Harness the power of lemon juice

Lemon juice is another popular cleaning agent. Squeeze some lemon juice in a cup of hot water. You need to follow the same process for cleaning as mentioned above for the dishwashing liquid. Since lemon juice is acidic in nature, this solution is quite effective in removing stubborn grease and stains from the exhaust fan.

Additionally, you could also rub the lemon peels directly over the fan blades and the rest of its body. Use a wet cloth to clean it after a while.

4.            Use vinegar solution

You can also clean your exhaust fan using a vinegar solution. It has powerful cleaning properties and helps get rid of oil, stains, and bacteria. There are two ways to use this solution. The first one is to simply mix it with water and then rub it all over the fan using a wet cloth.

The second way is to make your own DIY spray. Instead of rubbing it with a wet cloth, you can spray it all over the fan instead. Both techniques work well and your exhaust fan will shine as if it's new!
