BNP MP Harunur Rashid tenders resignation to Speaker

BNP legislator Harunur Rashid of Chapainawabganj-3 has presented his letter of resignation to Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Thursday.

Five of the seven BNP MPs resigned in person on December 11 to the Speaker as part of their party's anti-government action, the day after the BNP's rally in Dhaka.

Md Aminul Islam of Chapainawabganj-2, Md Zahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3, Md Mosharof Hosen of Bogura-4, Gulam Mohammad Siraj of Bogura-6, and Rumeen Farhana - MP from women's reserved seats, all submitted their resignations in person.

Abdus Sattar Buiyan, the ill MP of Brahmanbaria-2, and Md. Harunur Rashid, who was absent due to travel at the time, submitted their resignations via email instead of in person.

Six BNP MPs' seats were later declared vacant in a gazette notice issued by the Parliament Secretariat.

However, as Harunur Rashid's resignation letter was not accepted, his seat was not declared vacant.

The JS secretariat was unable to verify that Harun actually signed his resignation letter.
